DO YOU KNOW ABOUT OUR STUDENT COUNCIL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TARTU? — Eduardo (Mexico)

The role of the Student Council is to mediate the relationship between the students and the University. In simple words, they represent the student community to the University authorities, taking part in important decisions and changes, always taking care of the common interests of the students at UT.

Do you know you can also participate?

International students can participate just like local students both in running for office and taking part in elections to determine student representatives in institute and faculty councils.

Each institute has a council and so does every faculty.

How to participate?

If you want to become a part of your student council, it is possible to run for a student representative position. In order to do so you will need to fill an application form (in Estonian or in English) – the specific requirements are in the form.

Elections

The ongoing elections (from the 27th of March to the 9th of April) are for Faculty Student Councils representatives, every Faculty Student Council has 5 representatives.

It is worth mentioning that the official working language in the Faculty Student Councils is Estonian, like in the University itself or the University of Tartu Student Council, so this could be your chance to put your Estonian language skills to the test!

The upcoming elections (from the 16th of April to the 3rd of May) are for The Institute Councils, these councils have a varying number of representatives. There are some Institutes that have a mixed working language of English and Estonian and some where it is only English. You can find your current representatives here.
