ATTENDING CONFERENCE AND PRESENTING MY FIRST POSTER – RADITA (INDONESIA)
This summer I got an opportunity to be a student volunteer at ISC High Performance event in Frankfurt, 16 – 22 June 2017 (ISC stands for International Supercomputing Conference). ISC High Performance is an annual event for High Performance Computing (HPC) technological development and its application in scientific fields, as well as its adoption in commercial environments. I didn’t know about this event until my professor sent the information via Tartu University Computer Science mailing list. A lot of cool events and interesting projects are shared via university mailing list. It has so much information that I was so lucky that I didn’t miss this info.
So here’s my experience there:
As a starter in high performance computing topic, at first, I didn’t have any idea about what I should expect from this event. I am only able to attend two keynotes, the first keynote speech from Dr. Jennifer Tour Chayes gave me some ideas about what HPC is and what can I do with it. She explained the possibilities that can be achieved from learning HPC by giving concrete problems from the business sector until human biology to produce personalized medicine.
The last keynotes from Thomas Sterling was also interesting. He was a funny speaker that gave an overview of HPC history and what might be an interesting topic in the future especially for STEM students. The overall atmosphere was so fresh and it makes me can’t wait to attend next year conference.
Attending conference can’t be separated from collecting cool freebies
Networking and New friends!
In this event, I meet a lot of new friends that have the same interest. From bachelor students in Physics to PhD students in Mathematics are all here.
Big names in IT industry from all over the world are there and yes, there are racing cars on display, several of them.
Women in HPC event
Besides volunteering, I also got my poster accepted for Women in HPC session. It’s a community group that encouraging women to engage in outreach activities and improve the visibility of inspirational role models in HPC field. I’m presenting a poster here and it’s my very first poster for such a big conference.
